La Bonne Intention (LBI)… probably the Guyanese marque we know the least about. At least it is the marque we’ve (consciously) had the fewest expressions of. That said, a lonely pair has to do the job today. But at least we have two different batches.
The Nectar La Bonne Intention 2012 10YO (62,6%): Nose: Urgh, what it this? This is super weird. Chocolate, nougat, some herbs and a very disturbing (read: disgusting) note that I cannot really attribute. What the heck!? This is totally terrible if you ask me but let’s take a sip nevertheless. Palate: Much better than the nose since we do not get this strange note anymore. Maybe we have to taste this with a clothespin on our nose. Anyway, the profile is shaped by nougat and related notes but in a sense there isn’t a whole lot more. I guess it is quite bad after all. Finish: Short and somewhere between annoying and forgettable. In case anyone at DDL is reading this: I have no idea what you’ve done here, but whatever it is, fix it. Please! (63/100)
Nobilis La Bonne Intention 2013 8YO (64,7%): Nose: Many incredibly similar notes too the The Nectar bottling, nougat, chocolate, peanuts and medical herbs first and foremost. That said, I think it is already miles ahead of the 2012, even though I wouldn’t go as far as saying that this is any great either. The alcohol is very present. Palate: Liquid nougat, a decidedly smoky and medical note (think burnt herbs), licorice, raw cocoa, roasted peanuts and burnt charcoal are my main associations here. It is actually not a bad profile, but even though the Rum already has a decidedly woody note to it, it is way to young and immature for my liking. Finish: Relatively long with wood, cocoa, roasting aromas and spices such as cinnamon or allspice. The smoky note, slightly akin to smoked paprika, is omnipresent. To keep it short, this is a somewhat better version of the The Nectar 2012 if you want. (73/100)
